About Me
Jovanna Yam is a pianist and educator who believes every child can learn music in a fun, encouraging, and structured way. She graduated as the Best Graduate of the 2025 Cohort from Royal College of Music | NAFA under a two-year Bachelor’s scholarship, with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Instrumental & Vocal Teaching, and has performed on national television.
With over 355K+ followers across TikTok and Instagram, Jovanna shares piano and music content that inspires viewers worldwide. She has collaborated with creators and celebrities both locally and internationally, with notable names like Caleb Hearn, Caelen Moriarty, and SkaiIsYourGod, and has performed at Changi Airport and Mediacorp. She has also been featured through talks and local media, including ADPRex and 987FM. Beyond music, Jovanna also appears on YouTube as “Jovi” in the series Titan Academy under JianHaoTan's channel.
Most importantly, Jovanna is known for being wonderful with kids, building trust quickly, making lessons enjoyable, and guiding students step-by-step to real progress and confidence.

Speaker at Arts & Design Practice Research Exchange (ADPRex)
Presented her pedagogy research, "Capturing Pedagogies in Conjuring Colour through Touch and Mental Imagery" at ADPRex - South East Asia's first annual conference on practice research.

Arranged OCBC Jingle - The Bank for All (featured at the OCBC Employer Brand Roadshow)

My daughter was previously enrolled in the NAFA School of Young Talent, but after a year, her interest in piano declined. Despite engaging various teachers, her progress remained limited. Following a year-long hiatus, we began lessons with Teacher Jovanna, who successfully rekindled my daughter’s interest and enthusiasm for piano learning. It is unfortunate that Teacher Jovanna no longer offers home-based lessons, as her teaching has made a significant and positive impact.

I switched Ellie over to Teacher Jovanna because I wanted a teacher who places a strong emphasis on proper technique and developing musicality. Teacher Jovanna has far exceeded my expectations and transformed the way Ellie learns the piano and music.
What I really appreciate about Teacher Jovanna is her focus on building a strong musical foundation, including:

Proper technique, such as finger placement, wrist and arm movement, usage of arm weight, posture

Beyond that, what truly sets Teacher Jovanna apart is her ability to explain musical concepts in a way that genuinely clicks for young children. She sparks their imagination through imagery, analogies and storytelling. One memorable example was when she told Ellie “Want to know a secret? C Major and A minor are actually sisters”, making the idea of shared key signatures both fun and easy to remember. She doesn’t just teach her how to play, but helps her to understand how the music is meant to sound and feel like. With Teacher Jovanna, the music comes alive and Ellie looks forward to lessons with her every week.
Teacher Jovanna strikes a wonderful balance between strong technical training and creative, engaging teaching. Thanks to her guidance and genuine care for how a child learns, Ellie is developing both solid technique and a deep musical understanding.
